Building a content foundation for an industry that's hard to find online

Alltech Payroll is a Melbourne-based outsourced payroll specialist helping small and medium businesses manage payroll compliance, award interpretation, and everything in between. When Georgie, their Sales and Marketing lead, started thinking about content, she quickly ran into a familiar problem: payroll is a niche that's genuinely hard to find good information on, and most of what exists is either buried in Fair Work documentation or too generic to be useful.

The goal was to build something foundational — content that would help Alltech show up in search, establish authority in the market, and give potential clients a reason to trust them before they'd even picked up the phone.

Starting with research, not guesswork

The project started with keyword research across the outsourced payroll space — looking at what potential clients were actually searching for, what competitors were covering, and where the gaps were. From there, I pulled together a list of ten topic recommendations covering the questions that come up most in the industry: what outsourced payroll actually covers, how awards and enterprise agreements flow into payroll processing, the compliance obligations businesses often overlook, and the real differences between outsourcing and hiring in-house.

These aren't topics unique to Alltech, they're the foundational questions any business in this space needs to answer. That's the point. Capsule Content is designed to get the right people to the site first. Everything more specific and differentiated gets built on top of it.

Getting the insights right

What made this project more interesting than a straight research job was Juliette, Alltech's payroll manager. Georgie arranged for me to interview her before I started writing, and it was immediately obvious why. Juliette had the kind of deep, specific knowledge that doesn't exist anywhere online. On things like payroll governance, audit trails, the risks of manual data manipulation, and why the lines between HR and payroll are blurrier than most businesses realise.

That insight became the difference between articles that answer a question and articles that actually teach something. I took what Juliette shared, stripped out the jargon, and wrote it in a way that a business owner or office manager could pick up and use, which was the whole point.

Ten articles built to last

The finished capsule covers the core search territory for outsourced payroll in Australia, written with both Google and AI search in mind. The articles are structured to answer questions clearly, build topical authority, and give Alltech a content base they can keep building from.
